Even after all this time, the forums are full of so many bugs, even on the newly released Acronis True Image 2012. I think I may give up on Acronis after a 5 year run.

I downloaded the Ver 2012 trial, but the trial won't clone. I tried my old Acronis Ver 11 CD to clone my Main C drive to my Backup D drive but it read them as Backup Drive (C:) and Main Drive (D:) so I could not trust it.

So, I am just looking for confirmation that cloning from source to target HAS NO AFFECT WHATSOVER on the source. I dont need the D to be bootable (although no objection if it is), but I certainly dont want anything moved off the C drive. and, in the past, cloning actually MOVED (or asked it it shold move) licences from one drive to other - which again I dont want to do. Its likely harmless and its simply saying if one is repalcing a hard drive, remove the old one. it went on to say things like "you will need to remove you old drive once the cloning is complete" - which gave me pause. but I wont get hung up on the terminology. When I booted up with an Acronis CD and went through the menu items to clone a disk ( C to D), the language of course was such that Acrnoic was cloning my old drive to my new dirve ( which is a normal thing to do so when one replace a drive) In my case I am cloning new to old. I know there are many apps that can clone, eg Acronis, EaseUS, etc I use Acronic for image backups (which I haven't thought though yet for Win 7) I typicaly use Vice Versa from such file backups ( as I need to use Vice Versa anyway for other task on other machines) .

I thought I would clone the C drive onto the D, so they start identical, and from then on I can at least keep my data files incrementallybacked up ( and a have static Sep 2011 copy of the other files). I still have my existing internal backup D drive (identical size) fully accesible and untouched. it of course still has my old settings, old program files, old windows version etc etc. My bootable internal C drive is now Win 7. I recently and successfully upgraded from Vista to Win 7 - all worked out fine.
